关于WCG地图和“ChowChow”的研究报告

ChowChow被一些人认为是对中国人侮辱的叫法。
前些天8da议论这件事的人非常多，作为WCG地图的研究员我也很想一探究竟。
我注意到ChowChow的地图简介(map properties)里面是这样写的：The Chow Chow was used for hunting, herding, pulling and protection of the home in China. （地图简介在cr的时候选map时可以看到） 大意是说Chow Chow被中国人驯养来打猎，放牧，并保卫中国人的家园。因此我推测这张地图中不大可能有对中国人侮辱的成分。
为此几天前我特地给韩国官方地图设计者，也是WCG03地图的设计者Rose.of.Dream. 去信询问此事，于今天收到回复。信中解释说ChowChow绝无对中国人侮辱之意。他之所以如此命名此地图，乃是想表达ChowChow（作为一种中国狗）的勇敢。
下面，他更提到，在制作03 WCG地图时，他想使用一些世界性的名字（大概是以便于地图被全球玩家接受）。因此在高尔基公圆、大丽花、Korhal星球和火星十字四个地图特征的基础上，他又设计了Gorky Park（代表俄罗斯），ChowChow（代表中国），Dahlia（代表日本）。他解释说Dahlia同时也是X-Japan新专集的名字。
而他没提到的Korhal，我自己推测，是代表韩国。一是Korhal是唯一一张比其他地图小的地图；二是Korhal简写为KOR，与韩国的简写相同；三是其他三张地图都代表着是韩国周围的强国，而韩国本身无地图代表不太可能。
因此，四张地图的名字，除了其本身含义外，又有第二层含义，代表着4个国家：冰天雪地的俄罗斯，资源丰富但荒漠化程度高的中国(ChowChow属于资源很富的地图)，绿化程度世界前列的日本(但是Dahlia比起一般地图资源要少)，和面积相对小的发达国家韩国。
看到这里，你是不是觉得这个设计地图的人很了不起了？想到CEG把Lost Temple和这几个地图放在一起，真是觉得有点不伦不类……
说实话，在看到回信前，我也没想到这几个地图名字竟有这么多学问。其中最后一部分是我自己的推测，但我个人感觉也合情合理。

关于Rose.of.Dream. 这个人，听到Nostalgia, Guillotine, Paradoxxx, Namja Iyagi 等地图也出自他的手笔，不由让我得肃然起敬。看起来这个人对中国人还是非常友好的

I know you made the starcraft maps for WCG.
I have some questions about the map Martain Cross, or Chow Chow as it is called.
In China, some people think that the word chow is a disparaging name for chinese people. Or it means one kind of chinese dogs. Can you explain what were you thinking when you named the map?
I see The Chow Chow was used for hunting, herding, pulling and protection of the home in China. in the map properties. Are you meaning that the dog is used for chinese people, or something else? Why is the map named that?
Im looking forward for your reply. and I will explain your thought of the map to all chinese players.

I'm a official map designer Rose.of.Dream. Byun jong-seok.
I'm so sorry for mailing lately to you. It's too busy for preparing Ongamenet Pro League 2004 2nd Round. You know... I made some official map for Ongamenet Star League and Ongamenet Pro League. For Example, Nostalgia, Guillotine, Paradoxxx, Namja Iyagi etc... ^^
Well, 2003 WCG Grand Final Official Map also made by me. Martian Cross is one of map for 2003 WCG and original name is Chow Chow. Absolute not, the word Chow is a disparaging name for Chinese. When I made that, I wanna express the brave of 'Chow Chow' who is one kind of Chinese dog.
In 2003 summer, I prepared 2003 WCG official map and I wanna use global word for map name. So 'Gorky Park'(original name of Gorky Island) and 'Chow Chow' is named by me. Also, 'Dhalia(original name of Dhalia of Jungle)' is a kind of flower, and it is the name of X-Japan's Last Album Title. I wanna express two special thing on that map, one is a flower's mild and the other is a X-Japan's wild.
I love China and Chinese. Recently, I wanna travel to China. My major is French, but I wanna study Chinese. Well, Thanx for mailing to me.
